About DOC
I can remember finger-painting at age 4 in kindergarten. It gave me such a special feeling. That’s when I knew that I would be creating art for the rest of my life.
I graduated from SJSU with a B.A. in Graphic Design in '92: emphasizing in Illustration. During this time was when I created my signature style of illustrating bold black and white images, which I called “ZOPS”.
These new zop illustrations of mine became a self-titled comic panel published in my school newspaper (Spartan Daily). The panel combined my unique illustrations and quirky rhymes with an enlightening moral at the end.
As my interest for rhyming and illustrating grew, so did my passion for writing children's books, which perfectly combine my love for words, rhyming, illustrating, graphic design, and telling unusual stories.
For the past 30+ years I continue to remain passionate and truly delighted about creating my zop-style brand of artwork!
*I also really enjoy miniature golf, waterfalls, spicy food, giraffes, fountains, swimming, animated movies, indie pop/alternative/80’s music, and traveling to Europe... especially the Czech Republic, where I have visited numerous times. I also have become known for always putting a lot of ice in all of my beverages:)
